About

For many years now, I have been researching my Irish roots in the Quebec City area, and found out that the first O'Brien (and Heafey) settled in what was then known as the Waterloo Settlement, which became St-Dunstan, and eventually present-day Lac Beauport. Many Irsh families, both catholic and protestant, settled there, with a few English and Scottish families. Later on, French canadian families would come. Nearby Ste-Brigitte-de-Laval was developed a bit later, with land granted by the Séminaire de Québec, to mostly Irish families, many of whom seemed to come from the same area; Kilcommon in Co. Tipperary. The families there were almost all Irish catholic, with a few French canadians.

This site will attempt to show what happened to these families, where they went, how many stayed, and also highlight the "hidden" Irish families, where the surname disappeared when women married French canadians men.

Enjoy!
